About Museum of the American Railroad

A non-profit, educational corporation with a single mission: Preserve and present the history of railroading as it developed in North America.

The Museum operates two railroad exhibits: The Toy Train Exhibit is housed in an actual working toy train layout that was donated to it by Lionel Corporation. This exhibit presents and interprets the development and history of toy trains made by the Lionel Corporation, and other major American train manufacturers such as Ives, American Flyer, and Marx. The Mid-Continent Railway Museum is housed in an authentic 1928 Santa Fe railroad station located at the eastern edge of the City of North Freedom. The Museum interprets life along early railroads of America and exhibits a locomotive of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway.
